With expectations set on the world of robotics, technology, innovation, and knowledge, 90 fifth- and sixth-grade students from schools in Soacha arrived at the University of Cundinamarca, Soacha extension. Some parents and teachers from the participating educational institutions accompanied the morning session on Saturday, October 7.

This experience was carried out thanks to the agreement signed between UCundinamarca and the Learning Circles Foundation – Circoap, who developed the workshop in which the children built a robotic frog with the support of UCundinamarca Volunteers.

“It's an enriching process for the children of Soacha and for those of us who supported the experience. Through University Social Interaction (ISU) with the Volunteering Program, we guided the children alongside volunteers from the Circoap Foundations and Carlos Malatesta, a benefactor of the project. The Soacha extension provided the spaces and University Welfare supported with professionals for the successful development of the day; it was teamwork,” explained Patricia Gil, ISU Director.

For his part, Campo Elías Suárez, director of Circoap, stated that the main objective of these workshops is to spark children's and young people's interest in science and technology and help them find better life opportunities through knowledge.

The participants in the event were students from the educational institutions of Soacha: Paz y Esperanza, Luis Henríquez, Julio César Turbay, General Santander, and the Fundación Verdaderos Héroes. The next event will take place on October 21, where another group of children is invited to create their first robot.

Voluntary Action

Thanks to the participation of the 16 volunteers, this My First Robot robotics workshop was held. “It was a successful call; the students and a knowledge manager were motivated to be part of this workshop. Circoap gave them the guidelines and were with the children at all times supporting the creation of their first robot,” said Luz Adriana Pastrana, Institutional Volunteering leader.

The Leader explained that the volunteer program is currently continuing to be strengthened through various internal and external voluntary actions, through which the values of each individual are reinforced, the knowledge acquired in the fields of learning is put to the test, and they are strengthened as professionals for their lives.
