Our coat of arms

Shield of the University of Cundinamarca

It is designed on an oval profile with a gold field and a green border, featuring a central 15-pointed sun that symbolizes the provinces of Cundinamarca. This heraldic ensemble represents wealth, nobility, and faith through the gold, while the green color evokes nature, abundance, growth, and permanent production. At the heart of the sun, the stylized map of the department is integrated with the colors of its flag, recording the origin and identity of the institution.

Likewise, the elements of the coat of arms call for the fulfillment of duty, discipline, and scientific knowledge under the protection of wisdom. Finally, in the base of the shield, the motto “Ex umbra in solem” (From darkness to light) stands out, which synthesizes the philosophical mission of the university: to guide its students to leave ignorance behind in order to attain knowledge.

Our flag

It is constituted to a large extent by the color white, which evokes light and the institutional motto “Ex umbra in solem” (From darkness to light), in addition to symbolizing values such as purity of thought, ethics, equity, and triumph. In the center of the banner is the university's coat of arms, an element that represents the community's commitment to academic union, scientific development, social inclusion, and transparent governance in the service of others.

As one of the institution's most representative symbols, this flag presides over the main celebrations, such as graduation ceremonies and highly relevant academic events. It is before this flag that graduates swear to fulfill their obligations and goals, and it observes a protocol of respect so profound that it is flown at half-mast or drapes the casket during mourning for the passing of university directors, opportunity creators, or knowledge facilitators.
