Nestled in the beautiful savanna of the country’s central region lies Zipaquirá, the authentic “white city,” the “town of salt,” the “town of castles,” and the “foot of Zipa Hill.” The setting for several key events in the nation’s history and the birthplace of important figures, Zipaquirá has been home to the University of Cundinamarca (UCundinamarca) since the creation of its extension campus in 1999. The institution’s arts program—the Music Department—has been housed in a historic mansion owned by the municipality, at the foot of the Salt Cathedral. In 2016, the municipal administration granted UCundinamarca a plot of land for the construction of its own campus, where the first phase is already 85% complete and the second phase is currently in the planning, design, and administrative stages, with the aim of expanding the academic offerings in Zipaquirá.
