About the GHS
Based on its global commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, and within the framework of the Nature dimension of the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT), the University of Cundinamarca is implementing the Environmental Management System at the institutional level under the international standards of ISO 14001:2015. This certification was granted by the certifying body in 2022 for the Girardot Branch and the Facatativá Extension, including the El Vergel Agroenvironmental Unit, with plans to expand the scope to all campuses.
In this process of consolidation as a Green University, the university community—such as students, faculty, and administrative staff—participates in coordination with other external stakeholders in the environmental arena, acting as active agents aware of their transformative potential and responsibility for caring for life. This institutional commitment to the protection, care, and conservation of nature, as well as pollution prevention, is expressed in the Institutional Environmental Management Policy, which guides its efforts toward 6 environmental objectives focused on: being a green university (2), fostering an environmental culture (1), complying with legal and other applicable requirements (3), carrying out its activities with austerity and sustainability (4), implementing environmental programs that respond to its environmental aspects and impacts through the PIGA (5), and training and informing (6) management through institutional and translocal environmental dialogue.
The university also has other seals and recognitions that highlight its environmental commitment, such as the carbon footprint measurement, which has shown a positive trend with the reduction of tons of CO2 emitted at the institutional level from 2019 to 2022; the Biosecurity Commitment and Socially Responsible Company seals regarding its environmental component; and it has begun its journey toward carbon neutrality, consolidating itself as an environmental leader in the public education sector as a Green University that lives in balance with nature.
