UCundinamarca obtains ICONTEC Sustainability Seal

As recognition of the institutional commitment and performance in social, environmental, ethical, economic and governance matters, ICONTEC awarded the University of Cundinamarca the Sustainability Seal in the Origin category, a management that takes place within the framework of the mission function of University Social Interaction, the management of Social Responsibility (RSU) and Sustainability.

“This is a great achievement; such a thorough evaluation validates the University’s commitment to sustainability. Our educational model fosters respect for every dimension of being and one’s environment,” explained Dr. Víctor Hugo Londoño, Academic Vice-Rector, reaffirming the commitment across all departments.

For her part, Patricia Gil, Director of University Social Interaction, thanked the work teams and explained that “our Educational Model gives us the tools to continue working and incorporating sustainability into institutional management. Furthermore, we have the opportunity to identify gaps, optimize sustainable practices, and continue contributing to the promotion and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”.

He also explained that the institution has already incorporated sustainable practices and the goal now is to advance and maintain this recognition, aiming to move up a category. This comprehensive ICONTEC recognition model has been promoted since 2014 and currently has five (5) universities participating in the initiative. UCundinamarca is the first public university in Colombia to accept this challenge, in line with the 2030 Agenda.

Carlos Carvajal, head of the evaluation area, and Miguel Ángel Díaz, an executive at ICONTEC, formally presented the certificate on January 30th in a virtual ceremony, where they congratulated the institution on the achievement.

UCundinamarca continues its path towards consolidating itself as a territorial, green, socially responsible and sustainable university.
