The activity called Water Route for Digital Culture took place on April 20th, and was organized within the framework of the University Social Interaction project of the Postgraduate Institute and the Bagüe Cultural Learning Field.
The tour included three key points in the solid waste management process: the Fusagasugá Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Pekín neighborhood water treatment plant, and the recently inaugurated Water Park, explained Yenifer Beltrán, coordinator of the specialization in Management Information Systems. “Our goal is to raise awareness among young people through environmental education, focusing on civic culture, and, as an innovative component, to also promote digital literacy through these activities.”.
This is the first time the Postgraduate Institute has organized such activities, and the goal is for communities to take ownership of their territory. That's why entities like the public services company get involved, allowing people to learn about all the processes and projects underway in the area to conserve resources. At the same time, they are made aware of current issues such as water conservation, and in this way, begin to foster a responsible and co-responsible citizenry with respect to the territory.
It is worth noting that “the educational model of the University of Cundinamarca, MEDIT, trains for citizenship, freedom and democratic values and we are convinced that, if we do not empower citizens in the recognition of their territory, we will not be able to exercise democracy or freedom,” added Beltrán Sierra.
This has been a combined effort between Emserfusa and the University of Cundinamarca, and in this first delivery the Acción Comunal school was involved.
What role does the concept of digital citizenship play in this context?
Yenifer Beltrán SierraToday, all information regarding the management of territorial entities can be found online. A digital citizen who knows and can use these tools will be able to access all this information and monitor the management. The goal is to achieve sovereign communities in their territories that are self-managed.
Julian Fernando Bonilla"If we want to create transmodern people, we have to connect with nature, and that is what we are really looking for: to be self-critical in the face of problems such as consumerism, and to take ownership of the small actions that can be developed on a daily basis to minimize the impact that is caused to ecosystems as a result of human activity.".
The next session will be held with students and administrative staff of UCundinamarca.
