ISU shares experience of Translocality

The Directorate of University Social Interaction – ISU, participates in three different exhibition scenarios at the XVII Latin American and Caribbean Congress of University Extension and Social Projection Extension as a Strategy for Territorial Transformation, which took place on the main campus of the University of Quindío in Armenia, Quindío.

This meeting is organized by the Latin American Union of University Extension, ASCUN and the University of Quindío, as a space to interact, share and create knowledge, around topics related to university extension, which at UCundinamarca is called Social Interaction.

“UCundinamarca’s participation was crucial in promoting the exchange of knowledge with the community in the translocal context. We presented a podcast, had a poster session, and gave a presentation on territorial dynamics from the perspective of social interaction,” explained Patricia Gil, director of ISU.

Extending knowledge

The launch of the podcast "Extending Knowledge," produced by Unitec, the University of Ibagué, and the University of Cundinamarca, marked the beginning of the Director of Social Interaction's participation. This project originated as an initiative of the Central Node of Ascun and was created to showcase the processes developed through university extension programs within universities.

Social projects

The poster exhibition space was used to showcase one of the social interaction projects: Community Networks, led by Professor Wilson Gordillo from the Fusagasugá campus.

This project was selected in the first call for ISU projects and has managed to advance in visibility, becoming a benchmark for social appropriation of technology in Colombia.

Interaction in a translocal setting

The presentation “Translocality: Extension from the territory” was given, within the framework of the panel The Globalization of Extension, thus proposing a different position, when talking about the translocal, as an alternative to the local panorama.

During the presentation by ISU Director Patricia Gil, the meaning of Translocality was explained as MEDIT's commitment to highlighting the cultural and ancestral processes of each territory. This meeting contributed to visibility and engagement with academia, generating new opportunities for collaborative work between UCundinamarca and national and international higher education institutions through University Social Interaction.
