The Girardot Branch, in coordination with the Mayor's Office of Girardot, signed an academic cooperation agreement that will strengthen the transition of 10th and 11th grade students from public educational institutions to higher education, expanding opportunities for university access and retention in the municipality.
This alliance is part of the “La U en el Territorio” program and seeks to bring the University's academic offerings closer to public high schools through the implementation of Institutional Learning Fields (CAI, by its Spanish acronym), which allow students to begin training processes with a university focus starting from high school.
Through this model, young people will be able to take academic courses in areas such as logical reasoning, communication and critical reading, citizenship, entrepreneurship, English, and science, technology, and innovation, which will be certified and transferrable as academic credits once they enter an undergraduate program at the University of Cundinamarca.
The agreement also contemplates socio-occupational and vocational guidance strategies, with the purpose of helping students identify their interests, strengths, and professional projections, facilitating informed decisions about their academic future and contributing to the construction of solid life projects.
According to Dalia Suárez Pulido, Knowledge and Learning Manager for the Environmental Engineering program at the Girardot branch, this process “allows students to become familiar with university dynamics, strengthen key competencies, and view higher education as a real and accessible opportunity.”.
The initiative responds to the need to expand coverage and improve immediate transition rates to higher education in Girardot, where the University of Cundinamarca is the only public institution with on-site programs, consolidating itself as a key player in the educational development of the territory.
With an initial duration of three years, the agreement will make it possible to continuously monitor participating students, evaluate results, and progressively strengthen the academic offering, guaranteeing comprehensive support from high school through university life.
In this way, the University of Cundinamarca ratifies its commitment to a public, inclusive, and transformative education that promotes equity, access to knowledge, and life training for citizens capable of contributing to the social, economic, and environmental development of the region.
