Ubaté Sectional Translocal Forum

In a public hearing, the director of the regional branch, Alejandro Flechas Montaño, presented to the institutional community and the general public the mission management and the strengthening of academia for the 2018 period.

The Translocal Forums have the purpose of reporting on the results of academic and administrative processes; the institutional achievements and goals that impact the seven provinces of the department of Cundinamarca where the University has a presence, based on the six strategic fronts of the presidential plan.

In the fields of science, technology, research, and innovation, the Ubaté sectional branch held the first edition of the Project Gala, participated with two presentations at the 2018 National Meeting of Research Seedbeds (REDIS), and participated internationally with four presentations at the 8th International Computing Congress – CICOM “Emerging Technologies in Digital Culture“, held in Taxco de Alarcón Guerrero, Mexico.

It is worth noting that, through research projects and student research groups, more than 20 undergraduate theses, seven forums on accounting thought, and three encounters on social and solidarity economy have been developed.

As part of strengthening and modernizing the laboratories, management updated the computer labs by acquiring 55 new equipment units available to the educational community, the general computer lab, and the IT architecture lab.

Similarly, in the academic area, highlights include the improvement of the computer labs, the new management and accounting laboratory two, the electronics room, and the installation of the Mercanet main fiber-optic internet service channel to provide a bandwidth of 100 Mbps.

In social outreach, the realization of the "Live U with ICT" workshop stands out, which had the participation of 230 attendees from the region and the country. In addition to this, the branch office, through the Public Accounting and Business Administration programs, worked with seven associations in the innovation cluster for the use of applied technology and tools; Mathematics Olympiads with schools in the 10 municipalities of the province, among others.

In terms of resource management, the chapter submitted to the Ubaté City Council a draft resolution for the creation and use of the 1% “Pro-UdeC” Stamp, an important initiative for strengthening scientific research, modernizing and equipping laboratories and libraries, the document archive center, the creation of a publishing fund, and the special implementation of an academic and student scholarship program.

Other notable achievements of the branch during 2018 were participation in the second business, tourism, and gastronomic transformation fair of the Ubaté province, which brought together producers of crafts, dairy, and gastronomy, and the holding of the first Graduates' Congress, the purpose of which was to offer a set of academic activities for updating and complementing knowledge incorporated and approached in a dynamic way. This congress featured the participation of Dr. Sérvulo Anzola, considered the guru of entrepreneurship, and Engineer Jorge Arturo Isaza, entrepreneur and magician.

Regarding facility and technological improvements, the branch office adapted a new recreation area for time management, maintenance of the block C roof over the computer lab sector, and the adaptation of the creativity room.
