UCundinamarca warns of shortcomings in the Free Tuition Policy

The directors of the University of Cundinamarca submitted an urgent request to the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro, and the Minister of National Education, José Daniel Rojas Medellín, through a letter filed on July 16, in which the institution warned of an imminent risk of exclusion that would mainly affect newly admitted students from the region.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Education issued its formal response this Friday, July 17, through the Case No. 2026-EE-264415. In this document, the Directorate for the Promotion of Higher Education defined that, to guarantee the fiscal sustainability of the public policy, the recognition of state resources for annual increases will be carried out up to a maximum of 7.1% with respect to the previous validity.

The university insists that, if the budgetary limitations of the initial projection are maintained, a critical and immediate barrier to access would be created in the territory, cutting off the entry to higher education of hundreds of young people in conditions of high socioeconomic vulnerability.
