Transparency for territorial development

By: Carolina Rojas Cendales – Communications Advisory Office

The Public Accounting program of the Ubaté branch developed the University Social Interaction (ISU) project “Strengthening the social management of knowledge and community auditing for transparency in social organizations of Ubaté with a MEDIT approach”, an initiative aimed at strengthening organizational capacities and promoting the transparent management of community resources.

The project arose from identifying needs related to transparency, accountability, internal control, and citizen participation in Community Action Boards and Non-Profit Organizations in the municipality. Based on this assessment, training and support processes were implemented, focused on strengthening community governance and social oversight.

According to the Knowledge and Learning managers of the Public Accounting program, Dora Constanza Alonso Gómez and Mary Luz Ahumada Bello, the initiative allowed the consolidation of practical and participatory learning spaces through the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT) and the Learning Field Methodology (MCA), integrating academic knowledge with the realities of the territory.

Among the strategies developed were participatory workshops, in-person training, organizational consulting, and real-world case studies, as well as the collaborative development of the “Manual of Good Practices in Social Auditing and Transparency.” In addition, educational materials and an institutional podcast were created to strengthen the social appropriation of knowledge.

The participating communities highlighted the practical approach of the activities and the possibility of applying the knowledge acquired in real situations related to document management, administrative organization, social control and accountability.

The project also strengthened the relationship between the University and the communities in the territory, promoting processes of dialogue of knowledge, citizen participation and collective construction of knowledge, fundamental pillars of MEDIT and University Social Interaction.

With these types of initiatives, the University of Cundinamarca reaffirms its commitment to social transformation, strengthening the community fabric and building more participatory, transparent and sustainable territories.
