Strengthening well-being from a psychosocial perspective

By: Alejandro García Suárez – Advisory Office for Communications.

Opportunity Creators from the Psychology program at the Facatativá Extension, who carry out their training practices at the Transmodern Psychological Clinic, participated in an academic meeting with the SANAR Foundation in Bogotá, an organization that supports children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer and their families.

The experience, called “Accompanying with meaning, the contribution of the psychosocial role”, allowed to generate a space for dialogue, reflection and learning with professionals from the psychosocial area of the Foundation, around the challenges involved in accompaniment in pediatric oncology contexts.

For Andrés Mauricio Ramírez Rodríguez, Knowledge and Learning Manager for the program and coordinator of the Transmodern Psychological Clinic, the meeting aimed to strengthen the understanding of psychosocial support and recognize the contributions of each professional role. “We sought to recognize the meaning of this support, the specific contributions of each professional role, the responsibilities shared with other disciplines, and the necessary boundaries to provide ethical, humanized, and family-centered care for children, adolescents, and their families,” he explained.

During the day, the students reflected on the importance of listening, recognizing the needs of children and adolescents, respecting their voice and working in a coordinated manner with other professionals; they also analyzed how setting limits from the professional practice contributes to responsible support.

For Mariana Cubides, Creator of Psychology Opportunities, this experience represented a significant learning opportunity: “Accompanying a child or adolescent and their family goes far beyond being present or wanting to help; it involves listening, recognizing their needs, respecting their voice, and clearly understanding what our professional role is.”.

The meeting was consolidated as a training, social projection and situated learning scenario, where future professionals strengthened their skills and approached the realities of the practice of Psychology in contexts of special sensitivity.

This experience reflects the purpose of the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT): to develop well-rounded professionals capable of learning from real-world experiences, engaging in dialogue with diverse knowledge systems, and contributing to the transformation of their communities. At UCundinamarca, meaningful accompaniment also means educating for life, with empathy, responsibility, and social commitment.
