Learning by doing!

The institution continues to consolidate learning environments where theory and practice are integrated to strengthen the training of its Opportunity Creators. On this occasion, fourth-semester students from the Animal Science program at the Fusagasugá campus participated in a canine semen collection and artificial insemination exercise, developed within the framework of the Disciplinary Learning Field (CADI) of Animal Reproduction.

The day allowed students to apply scientific and technical knowledge in a real environment, strengthening skills related to reproductive biotechnologies, the management of reproductive animals, gestational monitoring and birth care, fundamental aspects for their future professional performance.

Karen Patricia Montoya Andrade, Knowledge and Learning Manager for the Animal Science program, explained that this experience was supported by Opportunity Creator Julián Camilo Romero, who shared his expertise throughout the entire reproductive process with his classmates, from preparing the animals to the birth of the pups. “This type of practical experience allows students to solidify their knowledge in real-world settings, develop technical skills, and understand the importance of teamwork and animal welfare within reproductive processes,” she emphasized.

As a result of the academic exercise, two litters were born, demonstrating the success of the practice developed by the students. The first litter consisted of French Bulldogs, with three males and one female, while the second litter consisted of Dachshunds, with one male and two females.

Karen Patricia also highlighted the commitment, discipline, and dedication of the members of CADI, who continue to promote learning spaces that strengthen the scientific, technical, and ethical skills of future professionals, contributing to animal welfare and the development of the livestock sector.

For his part, Opportunity Creator Julián Camilo Romero expressed his gratitude for the support of the Knowledge and Learning Managers of the Animal Science program and highlighted the value of teamwork during the internship. “Sharing this experience with my colleagues was very enriching. These activities allow us to learn through practice, strengthen our skills, and prepare ourselves to face the challenges of professional practice with greater confidence and commitment,” he said.

This experience reflects the principles of the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT), promoting experiential learning in which knowledge is built through interaction with real-world contexts, collaborative work, and the resolution of environmental challenges. In this way, the University of Cundinamarca continues to train professionals with a solid scientific, technical, and humanistic foundation, capable of contributing to animal welfare, the sustainable development of the livestock sector, and the positive transformation of local communities.
