Key steps to successfully find a job

Through Facebook, the University of Cundinamarca presented the talk "Towards your job placement: roadmap for successful employment," where Ricardo Lárez, a world-renowned employability coach, presented the secrets and infallible strategies to successfully position yourself in the job market.

The job placement roadmap has eight steps that must be followed to the letter to achieve a good job and stabilize personal and professional life.

“It applies to those who are looking for work from a position where they already have a job, since more than 70% of people are not completely satisfied with their current job, but it also applies to those who are unemployed,” Laréz stated.

For this process in which everyone starts inexperienced, it is relevant to seek an experienced mentor who has traveled similar paths to those that the professional envisions in the future.

These are the 8 steps on the path to success in your job search:

1. Strategy: Create a highly focused search strategy.

People should keep in mind what they want and what they don't want in a job before starting their search.

In addition, it is recommended to gain experience in associations or groups, even if they are non-profit, which allow you to generate stories, since on many occasions a professional does not have work experience but in an interview can tell stories to demonstrate what he is made of.

It all starts with asking yourself the right questions about what you want, what you don't want, and what you need for the stage of life you are in.

2. Networking: Network and strengthen your connections with your target job openings.

People confuse networking with corruption, nepotism, rewarding mediocrity, or giving the job to someone who doesn't deserve it, but those characteristics don't belong to networking. Instead, this strategy refers to capitalizing on good relationship building to gain an audience that talks about each other.

3: High-impact CV: Create a resume

Having a polished, high-quality professional profile is key for companies. It's advisable to use fewer templates and provide more substance; achievements should always be described in the first person, and finally, keywords should be used throughout the text.

4. Social networks: Set up your profiles and networks and use them. Be sociable:

It is important to join professional social networks, one of them and the most important is LinkedIn.

“It is more substantial and more valuable to be on LinkedIn than to spend an hour on Netflix or Facebook,” the coach stated.

5: Cover letter: Prepare a cover letter.

It is important to have a cover letter in which the professional introduces themselves and increases the likelihood that the company will be interested in learning more about them, their skills and strengths related to the position.

6. Apply: Submit applications.

Don't be afraid to apply for jobs, keeping in mind that your profile is already ready to be shown to the working world.

7. Telephone interview: Practice the screening telephone interview and define your salary range.

8. Selection interview: Practice the selection interview.

The last two points highlight that the applicant should prepare beforehand, either alone or with their mentor, on what to say and what not to say in each interview. Furthermore, they should have a clear understanding of their salary expectations to make it clear to the recruiter whether or not they are interested in the job.
