Zipaquirá Extension Wins Environmental Challenge

The Institutional Environmental Management Plan (PIGA) of UCundinamarca created the “Environmental Challenge in balance with nature” in which the administrative staff of all extensions and sections participated in order to promote good environmental practices in the educational community.

In this way, the activity that was developed in 2020 in the midst of the pandemic was taken to homes, making a contribution to the planet through the creation of videos in which good environmental practices carried out from homes and focused on the care of different natural resources were shared; this within the framework of environmental programs of waste, water, energy, materials and ecosystem services.

The Zipaquirá branch participated in the environmental challenge by creating a short film with the entire administrative team, highlighting key points for efficient water use in homes. This earned them recognition and the prize of enjoying recreational and sporting activities for a day at the Cafam Compensation Fund headquarters.

It is worth mentioning that the activity was rated by representatives of entities such as CAR, Corporación Punto Azul, among other institutions.

“In the last two years, the entire planet has experienced changes in how it communicates, how it lives its relationship with others and with nature, making it clear that life is a priority and that, to take care of it, we must also take care of the place where we live; that is why, contrary to becoming an obstacle, we developed activities from home, virtually, generating a redefinition in the approach to living the commitment of the UCundinamarca university community to the care of nature, manifested in our Institutional Environmental Management Policy,” said engineer Sandra Milena León, coordinator of the Environmental Management System.

‘"The importance of this event lies in highlighting environmental commitment and encouraging others to be environmentally responsible. This activity helped to integrate the group and strengthen the work team," said Dr. Juan Carlos Torres, Administrative Director of the Chía and Zipaquirá Extensions.

Finally, for Engineer León, “the challenge continues, and we all share it as a university community, day by day, taking the care of nature beyond doing, to being, with translocal impact, beyond the university campus, connecting this nature dimension with that of classroom, family, society, culture and institution, as MEDIT teaches us.”.
