Workplace health, a priority for the U.

With the aim of promoting healthy lifestyles among the university community, the institution begins health prevention and promotion activities in February, led by the Nursing program with support from the Office of Occupational Health and Safety.

These activities, which will take place in the Girardot and Fusagasugá branches, will also extend to officials from the two mayoral offices in those municipalities, noted Carolina Díaz, a nursing instructor. “Students in their tenth semester at the Faculty of Health Sciences will participate in the project during the in-depth study phase with small and medium-sized enterprises at risk levels I, II, and III in these municipalities. This activity will also form part of their graduation project,” the instructor explained.

It should be noted that these campaigns, in which an average of one thousand students have participated for more than eight years, have never stopped, not even during the pandemic, a period in which technology-mediated activities were developed.

These types of risk prevention actions are relevant to the care of the person, since for many decades in Latin America there has not been enough attention to treat diseases, due to the lack of awareness, the lack of creating a safe and healthy work environment, and the weakness of the institutions responsible for promoting and enforcing better working conditions.

It is worth noting that this project has been led by Nursing professors Flor Alba Martínez and Carolina Díaz with the support of the University's Office of Occupational Health and Safety.
