The event, which began around 5:00 pm, was institutional in nature and served as an opportunity for public servants to exercise while also sharing a space for reflection on the topic. “The activity was coordinated with the Faculty of Sports Sciences, which provided a student to lead it. Participants registered upon arrival using a QR code and were then given a gel,” stated Dr. Olga Perilla, Coordinator of Occupational Health and Safety, who led the event with support from the University Welfare Department.
Jonny Rincón López, the warehouse manager who was present at the event, said, “These kinds of initiatives are important because they help break the routine. In my case, it was a great addition because I ride a bike. I also really enjoyed it because I was able to spend time with my colleagues, which helps strengthen our relationships. When it was over, I felt more energized; I really enjoyed it.”.
Meanwhile, Karim Pinilla Avilez, who works in the Goods and Services department, found this activity very enriching and said, “I thank the institution for taking us into account to improve our physical and mental health, which is reflected in greater productivity for everyone. I hope they continue doing this and that other offices become more involved, especially now that mental health is so deteriorated after the confinement we experienced due to the pandemic.”.
At the end of the day, Dr. Margarita Moya, Director of University Wellness, invited attendees to use the various spaces that her department and the occupational health and safety department have created related to physical activity. “Throughout the week we have yoga, Zumba, and other classes that you can sign up for.”.
According to Dr. Olga, “the activities take place after 6:00 pm and anyone interested can write to us at [email protected] to attend. It is important to keep in mind that regular exercise contributes to physical and mental health.”.
Finally, it is worth highlighting that this program covered all locations except for Soacha, Zipaquirá and Chía, which postponed their implementation due to the mobilizations on that day.
