The talent, discipline, and commitment of the athletes from the Academic Sports Center (CAD) of the University of Cundinamarca once again brought honor to the institution. The Speed Skating team won 38 medals during their participation in the Pan American Speed Skating Festival, held in the municipality of Guarne (Antioquia) from June 30 to July 5, 2016, an event that brought together more than 3,000 athletes from different regions of Colombia and international delegations from across the Americas.
The University delegation consisted of 17 athletes, who competed in the Semi-Professional Skating and Non-Advanced Professional Skating categories, demonstrating a high level of competition against some of the best exponents of this discipline.
The team's coach, Jefferson David Gómez Díaz, highlighted the excellent performance of the athletes, who achieved a total of 38 medals, distributed as follows:
These results reflect the constant work carried out by the Academic Sports Center (CAD) to strengthen sports and provide scenarios that allow athletes to measure their talent in national and international competitions.
According to Jefferson David Gómez Díaz, the Pan American Festival represented a high-level competitive experience, bringing together thousands of athletes from different delegations and countries across the continent, making it an ideal space to strengthen the team's technical and athletic capabilities. “Our skaters demonstrated commitment, discipline, and a high level of competition. Participating in events of this magnitude allows them to gain experience, face new challenges, and continue growing as athletes and as individuals. Each competition strengthens their development process and motivates us to continue working toward athletic excellence,” the coach stated.
Jefferson also highlighted the work done alongside coach Maribel Chala Castillo, as well as the ongoing support of the families, who have been fundamental to the development of the athletes. “We want to provide the best experiences for our athletes. Competing outside the department, facing high-level rivals, and interacting with international delegations strengthens their training and demonstrates the quality of our coaches and athletes. We are deeply grateful to the parents, whose support makes it possible for these young people to have experiences that transform their lives,” added Gómez Díaz.
The participation of the skating team in this international competition strengthens the University's commitment to the training of the club's members, promoting sport as a tool for human development, leadership, discipline and institutional representation in high-performance settings.
With these results, the Academic Sports Center (CAD) continues to consolidate itself as a benchmark for university sports, promoting the talent of its athletes and projecting the University of Cundinamarca in national and international competitions.
