“We are pursuing the renewal of the qualified registration”

This program works towards the comprehensive training of professionals with commitment and social responsibility, with a systemic, prospective and transmodern vision of society, emphasizing inter and transdisciplinary action and high criteria of scientific quality in order to project the professional at the regional, national and international level.

Generation 21st Century Magazine: What is your assessment of the year 2022?

Luz Mireya Rincón: The program completed its self-evaluation process, which helped diagnose our strengths and weaknesses. From there, we developed a continuous improvement plan to enable us to continue striving for academic excellence. Also that year, we established the Center for Tax and Accounting Studies, which aims to be a regional leader in providing disciplinary information to accountants and professional associations to support the development of policies that benefit the field. Furthermore, we graduated thirty-seven students and established an agreement with the Colombian Tax and Customs Authority (DIAN) to provide services to its users.

Generation 21st Century Magazine: For this year. What projection do you plan to make?

Luz Mireya Rincón: We wish to renew our accreditation. To that end, we submitted the application to the Ministry of National Education last year. We also submitted our proposed curriculum revision for their review, which will allow us to offer students a more up-to-date educational pathway. We are awaiting the visit from the academic peers this year.

Generation 21st Century Magazine: How do you view the fact that many young people prefer to train through various platforms, instead of going to a university?

Luz Mireya Rincón: The thing is, accounting started out as a more technical discipline, so now the aim is to create a professional with a more managerial sense so that they can participate in decision-making in organizations, and that can only be achieved by going to university.

Generation 21st Century Magazine: How have you managed to transmit the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT) to young people?

Luz Mireya Rincón: The model is based on putting the student at the center of training, and from that perspective, we are carrying it out, taking into account that we have not yet redefined ourselves to put it fully into practice.

Generation 21st Century Magazine: Regarding the research topic, what work is being done?

Luz Mireya Rincón: The program has an active research group, and we have three faculty members dedicated to this work. In that vein, we have been participating in the university's internal calls for proposals. Last year, we carried out two projects: one focused on the rural sector of the municipality of Chía, and the other on the impact of external auditing on entrepreneurs, with some interesting results.
