We achieved a gold seal in sustainability

By: Alejandro García Suárez – Advisory Office for Communications.

The University of Cundinamarca has written a new chapter in its commitment to the planet and its communities. ICONTEC awarded it the ESG Verified Sustainability Seal in the Gold category, a recognition that positions it as a national leader in sustainable higher education and validates years of collective work for a fairer and more responsible future.

The evaluation by the Colombian Institute of Technical Standards and Certification – ICONTEC, revealed that the institution achieved a Sustainability Index of 91.51%, with outstanding figures in each dimension: Social (93.73%), Governance and Economy (94.02%), and Environmental (86.69%). These numbers reflect solid, consistent, and constantly evolving practices.

This achievement is no accident. Since 2023, when it first obtained the ICONTEC Sustainability Seal, the University has strengthened its strategic approach by integrating sustainability as a cross-cutting theme in its academic, administrative, and territorial management.

Rector Dr. Adriano Muñoz Barrera emphasized the significance of this recognition: “The Gold category not only recognizes a result, but also an institutional path built with rigor, participation, and commitment. Sustainability is part of our university identity and our responsibility to the region, the communities, and future generations.”.

The process has been led by the Social Responsibility area of the University Social Interaction Directorate (ISU), with the coordinated work of academic, administrative and support areas that have implemented policies, programs and actions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the ESG (environmental, social and governance) approach.

Jenny Alexandra Páramo Aragón, director of ISU, stated: “This recognition challenges us to continue moving forward, to strengthen an institutional culture based on environmental stewardship, social equity, transparency, and continuous improvement. True impact is achieved when we all take an active role in building a sustainable university.”.

For her part, Angélica Guzmán Pérez, lead manager of University Social Responsibility, explained that the work has been constant, “At University Social Responsibility, we have worked to ensure that sustainability is lived, managed, and evaluated as a guiding principle of institutional work based on our Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT). Sustainability is not an achieved goal, but a permanent commitment that demands innovation, co-responsibility, and continuous improvement.”.

The institution called upon its entire university community to continue strengthening responsible practices, promoting a culture of environmental care, social equity and transparency, consolidating itself as a regional and national benchmark in sustainability from higher education.
