The objective of this activity is to showcase the research and artistic production that is done in the Zipaquirá Music program, as well as that of internationally renowned artists who will be present as speakers at the event.
UCundinamarca News spoke with León Salcedo, a professor in the program, who explained how these sessions, which have been held for six years with great success and have become an important space for dissemination, will be developed.
UCundinamarca News: What will the schedule be for the first day?
Leon Salcedo: We will be holding it in auditorium two of our extension building, and admission is free. At 2:00 pm, we will have the QUI74R guitar quartet with artists Juan Felipe Ávila, Mario Pardo, Iván Pérez, and Fabián Valenzuela.
Around 2:30 pm, we will present the lecture "Joropo and Pajarillo Sinfónico – Public Reaction to Folk Music Expanded into Academic Language Adapted for Two Pianos," by Víctor Medina and Víctor Ojeda, University of Cundinamarca. The event will conclude around 3:00 pm with a guitar recital of Colombian composers performed by Maestro José Luis Gallo of Javeriana University.
UCundinamarca News: What will the schedule be like for the second day?
Leon Salcedo: Today's event will be streamed on the university's social media channels. At 2:00 pm, Simón Castaño from the University of Antioquia will present the lecture "Multispecies Musical Zooethnographies." At approximately 2:20 pm, Zemög José Miguel Gómez Ríos will discuss "Musical Creation Through Experimentation, Sound Design, and Synthesis." Finally, at 2:40 pm, Santiago Barbosa Cañón from the University of the Arts of Cuba will present "Teaching and Learning Contemporary Music Today.".
At 3:00 pm, Carlos Alberto Duran Zarate from the University of California, Los Angeles, will present "Effective Communication in Film Music." To conclude the day, at 3:20 pm, "National and Regional Music: The Case of Agustín Payán Aboleda in the Valle del Cauca" will be presented. This event is organized by PRÁCSOMUS, Universidad del Valle, Buga campus. At 3:40 pm, "Among the Mountains: The New Sounds of the Coffee Region" will take place, featuring a concert in dialogue with Cenit Ensemble, Ted Ford, and Yuen Po Hang. This event is presented by the Cenit Ensemble New Music Research Center and the Royal Northern College of Music of Manchester.
UCundinamarca News: Which guests would you highlight at these conferences?
Leon Salcedo: I would highlight Carlos Alberto Durán, a Colombian composer, a graduate of the National University of Colombia, and a PhD from the University of California, for his presentation on Effective Communication in Film Music. Likewise, Santiago Barbosa from Cuba, a graduate of the University of the Arts, will speak on teaching and learning. These are speakers well worth seeing, along with the others.
UCundinamarca News: How does this entire proposal align with the Transmodern Digital Educational Model?
Leon Salcedo: The Transmodern Digital Educational Model is part of this proposal through the concept of cross-border dialogue, as we will have an exchange of knowledge between national and international peers. This is also evident in the outreach we provide to our work, thus fulfilling the concept of translocality, which is a fundamental part of our educational project. Finally, I want to emphasize that these workshops were key to our accreditation process, as the academic peers highlighted this initiative as a fundamental element in achieving it.
UCundinamarca News: What will the methodology be for these sessions?
Leon Salcedo: The works will be presented in the form of lectures and dialogued concerts, which consist of a musical presentation accompanied by relevant comments from one or more experts.
