Udecinos demonstrate skills during English Day, Soacha Extension

500 students participated in the fun, cultural and recreational day; an initiative that strengthened oral comprehension and expression skills.

“The English department at the Soacha Extension of the University of Cundinamarca has recognized the importance of teaching English as a foreign language through cultural and linguistic components. These initiatives seek to raise awareness about the globalized culture to which students are exposed, and to foster an openness to the culture of English-speaking countries.”, highlighted the English teacher, Rosa Delia Acosta León.

The English Day at the Soacha Extension had the participation of approximately 500 students from the English levels I, II and III of the academic programs of Sports Science, Industrial Engineering and Software Development Technology.

During the fun, cultural and recreational day, the following activities took place: Who wants to be a millionaire game, English song contest, World Cup Russia 2018 video contest, among others, in order to promote the use of the English language as the exclusive element of communication in the different academic scenarios in the student community.

Every semester the activity “Udec Soacha English Day” is carried out and every year during the second semester the English song contest called “Udec Soacha English Song Contest” is held, initiatives that are committed to a bilingual campus.

For this occasion, one of the central activities of English Day was the video contest: World Cup Russia 2018 Video Contest, a project based on the creativity and digital skill of 22 videos that were made visible on a Facebook Fan Page, a technological space and social network that allowed the selection of the 5 best audiovisual samples through Likes, to choose the most outstanding one through symbolic applause from the public and their respective recognition of this work.

“These bilingual activities contribute to the student's professional development because they allow them to take on responsibilities through leadership and teamwork. Furthermore, they strengthen the communication skills that future professionals need to establish communicative and cultural relationships.”, Acosta León pointed out.
