The University of Cundinamarca made an urgent appeal to the governor of the department, Jorge Emilio Rey Ángel, to formalize a new cooperation agreement that would allow it to sustain its free education programs for young people in Cundinamarca. The university's leadership warned of a budget deficit of $4.212.182.004, This is due to the limitations and amounts approved by the Ministry of National Education (MEN), resources which are currently insufficient to cover all applicants.
The institution clarified that, while the national government's tuition-free policy is in effect, its strict admission criteria exclude a large number of students who meet the academic profile and admission requirements. Given this situation, the university warned that without additional support or funding from the departments, it would seriously jeopardize the right of first-semester students to access public higher education.
With the aim of combining technical and financial efforts, the formal proposal submitted by Ucundinamarca contemplates that the Governor's Office maintain the contribution made in the last agreement, estimated at $463.989.825. If this request is approved, it is projected to guarantee minimum enrollment coverage. 265 students, This figure could increase when applying additional discounts such as voting discounts or other current benefits.
