On July 13, at the Cercun facilities, a discussion was held between the rector of the University of Cundinamarca, Adriano Muñoz Barrera, the Academic Vice-Rector, Orlando Blanco, the head of the Research Directorate, José Zacarias Mayorga, with the creator of IDDS Ammy Smith and representatives of the National University of Colombia and members of the organizing committee such as Mr. Pedro Reynolds Cuellar.
This discussion took place within the framework of IDDS 2017, which has been underway since June 30th with the registration and reception of international participants and residents from surrounding areas. The university rector emphasized the importance of organizing and supporting this summit as an academic space outside the classroom, bringing together people from diverse academic disciplines and cultures—a setting that strengthens us as a translocal institution.
It should be noted that in the discussion, the experience and perception of each person about social innovation and the importance of creating alternatives and solutions for rural communities are being shared, as are the 60 participants of IDDS 2017, who have lived together for 14 days in this experience that drives them to transform their reality.
