UCooperativa praises Nursing project

This took place within the framework of the First Mental Health Research Seminar held on October 7th, where Dean Yaneth del Pilar Piñeros, accompanied by Professor Carlota Castro from UCundinamarca, toured the facilities. Tenth-semester students explained the initiative to her. “We were with a group of our students and two professors from the Villavicencio campus, and it was very important for us to learn about this space where nursing students carry out health promotion and prevention activities focused on sexual and reproductive health,” she commented.

“I liked that in addition to having the service at the university, it is also extended to two schools, Atanasio Girardot and another in the rural area, where the aim is to promote healthy lifestyles in this area, since self-care in this population is key,” said Dean Piñeros.

She also highlighted these multidimensional learning environments that confront students with reality, in accordance with the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT), which is significant in their training process. “These types of experiences help students develop skills in primary health care; hence the importance of their involvement in these activities.”.

Regarding the possibility of replicating this pedagogical experience, the dean commented that, "I cannot commit to this idea for now, but in the future I would be interested in doing something similar.".

Meanwhile, for Karol Carrillo, a ninth-semester student at UCooperativa who also learned about the initiative, this experience was very positive. “I really enjoyed learning about it since there aren't many educational institutions that address these types of projects, and it's needed. On a personal level, it contributed to my training as a future nurse.”.

With this Healthy Friend Unit project, the University of Cundinamarca reaffirms that its mission is not fulfilled solely by imparting knowledge in the classroom, but by educating individuals for life with the capacity to transform their environment. This is the origin of these important initiatives in each of the regions where the institution has a presence.
