Ubaté branch connected with recycling

From the Learning field: Cultural Sowing Hope in the Ubaté Section, the Recycling Marathon was held on June 29, as the second phase of the activity “Recycling I Walk”, led by the Environmental Management System, SGA.

The activity, which consisted of motivating the community to bring post-consumer and recyclable waste to the branch office, was supported by Emservilla ESP, the CAR with the Cicloreciclo program, and the Secretary of Sustainable Development of the Ubaté mayor's office.

“We achieved a local impact, welcoming the community members who came to this event bringing their waste, and in this way, we contributed to environmental protection. The collected materials will be disposed of by post-consumer waste management companies in conjunction with the CAR,” explained Cateryne Rodríguez, a professional from the Environmental Management System (SGA) of the Northern Node.

These types of activities with post-consumer waste are globally one of the long-term strategies that allows for the proper disposal of waste that, due to its characteristics, may generate some negative impact on the environment.

“From the Ubaté branch, we will continue to carry out these types of activities that don't just stay on paper and in discussions; we strive to take action and, in this way, generate changes,” said Dr. Alejandro Flechas, administrative director of the Ubaté branch.

For its part, the Environmental Management System (SGA) conducts awareness campaigns to encourage the university community at the main campus, extensions, and branches to recycle at home and in the office, thus achieving positive environmental impacts. The Ubaté branch has carried out two activities related to this goal so far in 2021.

“The agreement we have with the Los Angeles Recyclers Association allows us to ensure that the material generated and collected at UCundinamarca is properly disposed of. We know that this waste will not generate pollution and that it will be converted for post-consumption use,” explained Cateryne Rodríguez.

This activity aims to achieve a short and long-term transformation by changing the way we think about waste generation. That is why, from the Cultural Learning Field "Sowing Hope," we are committed to encouraging activities that mitigate the impact associated with waste management.
