Ubaté branch facing the challenge of virtuality

The University of Cundinamarca, in conjunction with its branches and extensions, is implementing contingency measures to ensure the continuation of the academic semester and administrative operations. Furthermore, the institution continues to promote self-care and adherence to recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the guidelines of the National Government through its communication channels, including its website, social media, virtual radio station, and YouTube channel.

In this sense of relevance, the Ubaté branch adopts flexible and adaptive work plans in response to Covid-19 and in the context of the situation that the world society is experiencing, especially Colombia and rural areas.

“At the Ubaté branch, we have a large number of students who come from rural areas where internet connectivity is nonexistent and there is a lack of technological equipment. Our students are from socioeconomic levels one and two. That is why I want to appeal to the Ministry of National Education and to Ministry "We need the support of the government to provide the University of Cundinamarca, a regional institution, with internet, computers, and all the technological support necessary for the development of virtual classes," said Alejandro Flechas, director of the branch.

Furthermore, the administration is surveying the student body to keep students informed about the branch's academic and administrative processes. The regional radio station also provided airtime to broadcast information and reach the entire academic community.

As one of the MEDIT strategies, in which technology is also a constitutive axis of the educational process, given the strong presence of digitization in daily life, which implies rethinking learning through virtuality and different technological devices; beyond the automation of processes and the design and use of platforms, the administrators of the Section make use of digital tools such as Microsoft Teams, Moodle, Zoom, among others.

Likewise, the administrative tasks related to each official's work plan are monitored in real time and online, since the branch has a group in SharePoint (Office 365 platform tool), where the record of the activity carried out daily is evident.

Finally, each program coordinator is in the process of designing four online courses, and free online courses are being consolidated for graduates; currently, the branch offers the following:

  • Introduction to Occupational Safety and Health led by Laura Deaza, support officer in OSH, northern node. .
  • Academic writing workshop, led by communications professor Luis Fernando Pérez.
