Tourism in Girardot

With the aim of promoting tourism in the region and highlighting nature tourism, students Natalia Quintana Guzmán, Michelle Fernanda Alarcón Mesa and Jhonny Alexander Sánchez Hernández from the Tourism and Hotel Management Technology program at the Girardot branch, take a tour of five magical places in the municipality.

“When we think about tourism, we choose other areas of the country that, while very beautiful, it’s better to start by getting to know our own. Cundinamarca has very valuable places, and this tour of Girardot demonstrates that,” said Natalia Quintana Guzmán, a student at UCundinamarca.

For his part, Jhonny Alexander Sánchez Hernández explained that adventure or nature tourism allows us to have contact and harmony with nature, "tourism in Girardot allows us to know our roots and the natural wealth.".

These three students toured the places in the municipality and recommend enjoying them in a healthy and responsible way:

Black stones

According to Michelle Fernanda Alarcón Mesa, a student at the University of Cundinamarca, Piedras Negras is located on the border between the municipalities of Tocaima and Girardot. To get there, one must enter through the Pubenza village in Tocaima. The student states that the Piedras Negras hill territorially belongs to Girardot.

“It’s a magical and majestic place. There are two stones with rock art where our ancestors left their footprints,” said xxx, adding that from the summit you can see Girardot, Tocaima, and Agua de Dios. It’s a perfect place to relax, with cabins available for rent to enjoy in a family atmosphere.

The Little Tree

Natalia, a future Tourism and Hotel Management technologist at UCundinamarca, says El Arbolito is a great place for ecological walks, cycling, and relaxing in the pool at the top.

The path is surrounded by flora characteristic of the warm climate and wild animals, and also offers a wonderful view.

The Caves

“It’s a wonderful place to enjoy the scenery and the water,” explains Michelle Fernanda, a student from the Girardot branch. The caves are located near the Pozo Azul neighborhood, and although private access is not permitted, they represent great tourism potential for the region. “We hope that soon, in a responsible manner, tourism can resume in this perfect place for exploring and experiencing adventures.”.

Jhonny Alexander reminds us that this place can only be entered with the authorization of its owners.

The Pozo Azul Wetland

Just 10 minutes from Girardot, entering through the Pozo Azul neighborhood, lies the wetland, located on the Nariño road, opposite the La Esperanza neighborhood. "Beauty is everywhere: the abundance of water, the birds that come there, the animals, the opportunity to take photographs, and the chance to breathe fresh air. The wetland is only 3 km from the center of Girardot," said Jhonny Alexander.

Natalia states that despite being a place of great tourist quality, it is essential to ask for permission from its owners to be in that place.

Captain Rozo's boat

Located on the banks of the great Magdalena River, this spot is perfect for birdwatching. Visitors can enjoy beautiful riverside scenery, and there's also a restaurant. "This place is three blocks from the town's main park, in the old port of Los Guamos, now known as the Tourist Pier," explained Michelle Fernanda.

Finally, the students invited everyone to visit these tourist destinations and reminded them that, with the restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, nature tourism is one of the safest forms of tourism, allowing people to discover our country and support those who make a living from tourism and gastronomy.

“Girardot has so much to offer, there’s always time for a new destination and this is Girardot,” Natalia concluded.
