Topographic and Geomatic Engineering in Soacha

By: Alejandro García Suárez – Advisory Office of Communications

The University of Cundinamarca is expanding its impact in the region with the launch of its new Topographic and Geomatics Engineering program, which will begin classes in August 2025 at its Soacha campus. This academic initiative reaffirms the institution's commitment to quality public education, innovation, and regional development.

This program is unique in the central region of the country and is currently only offered by two universities in Colombia, making it an exceptional opportunity for young people who want to get involved in the analysis and transformation of the territory from a scientific and technological perspective.

According to Luis Alberto Herrera Martinez, Knowledge and Learning Manager of the program, this career is aimed at students with an affinity for mathematics, physics and the abstract representation of the territory.

“It is a privilege to lead this training in a country where this academic offering is scarce and so necessary for the orderly development of our cities and rural areas,” the professor stated.

Topographic and Geomatic Engineering trains professionals capable of addressing territorial planning in a sustainable way, using tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), digital cartography and multipurpose cadastre.

The new undergraduate program offers comprehensive training, integrating scientific, technological, and social knowledge, enabling its graduates to generate real solutions to the country's urban, rural, and environmental challenges.

With this program, UCundinamarca continues to consolidate itself as a key player in the training of human talent for the territories, responding to the needs of the regional and national context with relevance, innovation and social commitment.
