With the aim of strengthening preparedness and response capacity to disasters, the University of Cundinamarca in collaboration with the Administrative Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UAEGRD) led a technology-assisted experience in the fundamentals of Disaster Risk Management for the municipal coordinators of the 116 municipalities of Cundinamarca.
The event, which opened with an inspiring message from the department's governor, Jorge Emilio Rey, emphasized the importance of establishing robust strategies that prioritize disaster prevention. The director of the UAEGRD (Special Administrative Unit for Disaster Risk Management), Natalia Gómez, highlighted the importance of these academic forums, which will continue to emerge both virtually and in person, to promote knowledge and prevention not only among the Municipal Coordinators for Disaster Risk Management (CMGRD), but also throughout the entire population of Cundinamarca.
“These spaces are essential to promote disaster prevention and preparedness,” said Director Gómez, thanking the University of Cundinamarca for its collaboration in this work.
The dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the University, John Alexander Moreno Sandoval, also participated in the event, highlighting the collaboration to provide comprehensive training in short-term disaster risk management.
The presentation was given by Diego Mesa, a professional in Environmental Sciences, with a Master's degree in Global Change and Disaster Risk, Regional Development and Territorial Planning.
The Cundinamarca government invites the community to participate in future training sessions and to join in the joint effort for a society better prepared to face the natural and non-natural challenges that may arise in the territory.
