In an interview with Guía Académica, Jerónimo Castro, director of Colfuturo, explained the step-by-step process for obtaining the loan-scholarship offered by the organization. He stated that in this round of applications, they expect to select approximately 1,400 students to pursue postgraduate studies abroad.
She also noted that, new for this year, the maximum grant amount is $50,000, increasing the budget for students. She said they expect more than 3,000 applications for 2019.
“The application period closes on the last day of February. The key point is that applicants must propose only one program; they do not need to have an admission letter to apply. We will announce the list of selected applicants on May 15,” Castro announced.
He also stated that this loan-scholarship program is exclusively for individuals seeking postgraduate studies, specifically master's or doctoral degrees, abroad. He affirmed that only in-person programs are offered and that the most qualified candidates are selected through a competitive process.
Castro stated that when the student returns to the country, they will receive additional benefits if they work on educational or research projects, or if they settle in a city other than Bogotá. He emphasized that fluency in a second language is extremely important and can be a decisive factor.
“We have beneficiaries in 50 different countries. The nations with the most students enrolled in Colfuturo programs are usually the United States and the United Kingdom. However, there are other countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, Australia, China, New Zealand, and Scandinavia,” he concluded.
