This is how the 2nd Environmental Forum of Facatativá went

With a series of presentations and workshops to strengthen environmental knowledge and habits among the community of Facatativá, on June 8, 9 and 10, the II Facatativá Environmental Forum was held to commemorate World Environment Day and share the challenges and difficulties left by the Covid-19 pandemic in the world.

This forum, organized by the Interinstitutional Committee for Environmental Education of Facatativá (CIDEA), focused on environmental care and how people can contribute to conservation from home. This open dialogue took place at a time when technology-mediated work is part of a new reality, and it is necessary to consider how to incorporate this technology into our environmental stewardship.

“This pandemic has taught us many lessons. At the beginning, we saw the splendor of nature due to the lockdown, but also a great concern: the use of plastics that is affecting the environment,” said Dr. Guillermo Aldana, mayor of Facatativá, who also pointed out the actions his administration is taking to encourage good environmental practices.

The event, which originated as an initiative of CIDEA, was organized by UCundinamarca, the Department of Education, and the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Development. “For UCundinamarca, it is very important to participate in these events, as we always seek to raise awareness within the university community,” stated Fredy Duque Duque, a professor in the Environmental Engineering program.

From the Facatativá Extension, Fabio Andrés Pardo, coordinator of the Specialization in Environmental Education and Community Development, in his presentation explained the experiences of community work for the conservation of the Mancilla stream.

For their part, the team made up of engineer Diana Carolina Russi Aldana, professional of the Environmental Management System, engineer Liseth Paola Sanabria, professional Leader of the Cultural Learning Field “Care of Nature” and the students of the Environmental Engineering program Environmental Education Core, Juan David Cruz Marín, Laura Barragán Estrada and Laura Viviana Cerón of the University Environmental Project-PRAU- led the Home Gardens Workshop.
