UCundinamarca designs app to revive Colombian Andean music

At the second meeting of seedbeds of the University of Cundinamarca, which was held virtually, a project was presented whose main objective is to strengthen Colombian Andean music, especially in the educational field.

Yudy Lizeth Martínez and Maryeli Páez from the institution's music program are in charge of the ongoing research entitled: Production of written repertoire of Colombian music.

The need to revive Andean music and strengthen its teaching arose after research on Colombian music revealed that part of the Andean region's repertoire has been relegated.

“The problem arose when we realized in Colombian music classes that there wasn't much written material on Andean music and it was difficult to study. That's why we started compiling different sources and theoretical references to reconstruct and make a kind of arrangement to visualize it through software,” said Lizeth, one of the project's seedbeds, during the Facebook presentation.

The music application will have a virtual mixer in which different sounds can be mixed using ten channels with different buttons and knobs.

To obtain the digital tools, preliminary work was done in which research was conducted on the instruments and repertoire of Andean music and "through a digital survey the transcription was made," explained Lizeth.

The platform aims to be a benchmark for education in the region, taking into account the current context of the pandemic that demands virtual education.

These types of projects go hand in hand with the University's Transmodern Digital Educational Model, which does not intend to engage in theoretical discussions about pedagogy and didactics, but establishes a university educational ideal in accordance with the current moment, that is, in a specific socio-historical and cultural context.
