Discipline, responsibility, confidence, and self-love are just some of the values that Germán Andrés Vargas Ospina, teacher and director of the SACA theater group of the Girardot branch, transmits to young people.
The group is currently made up of seven students from the Nursing, Environmental Engineering, Business Administration and Education degree programs; “before the pandemic, we were between 15 and 20 members, however, the virtual environment has affected the development of the group.”.
After the pandemic hit, things changed, but the group persevered, and the training and rehearsals for theatrical productions became what the young people now need: audiovisual production. "It's about them continuing to have tools for life; we continue with training in non-verbal language, assertive communication, managing stage fright, and knowing how to listen.".
Likewise, the teacher explained that camera handling, digital recording options, format, locations, and audio are some of the classes and workshops supported by technology that are offered in the theater group.
“Theater goes beyond preparing for a play, as it exercises memory and gives students tools to face working life, learn to work as a team, and manage stage fright they may feel when presenting a job interview or any situation in life,” the teacher explained.
Theatre festivals
Since 2019, the Girardot branch's theater group has participated in a theater festival with independent groups from the region and various training schools. When the pandemic hit in 2020, things changed, and they saw technology as a great opportunity to hold the International Theater Festival with the participation of groups from Brazil, Peru, Argentina, and Colombia.
“We held this theater festival virtually, and we are planning to hold another one this October.” Thus, the good name of UCundinamarca as a developer of culture is already present in other countries, reaffirming its commitment as a translocal institution.
All of them, a great team
The theater group emerged thanks to the great support of Dr. Juan Carlos Méndez, Administrative Director of the Girardot branch, as one of the strategies of the University Welfare of the branch under the coordination of Lina María Celis Mejía.
SACA Teatro is directed by Germán Andrés Vargas Ospina, who is a Master in Performing Arts with an emphasis on Theater from the Universidad Distrital, and who has directed theater groups in Brazil.
