During November 21 and 22, more than 500 people gathered to enjoy the V University Theater Festival, an event that this time paid tribute to Mexico.
The Emilio Sierra Baquero auditorium became the ideal space for students from each of the branches, extensions and headquarters of the University of Cundinamarca to demonstrate the articulation of knowledge around the academic stage, the performing arts, experiences, processes and university artistic displays worked on throughout the year in the theatrical staging of each work presented at the FUT.
The event featured the participation of the theater group from the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia, with the play "the three questions of the devil in love", an adaptation of the original work by Misael Torres; as well as artists from neighboring municipalities, for a total of 10 theater groups.
Meanwhile, the theater group from the municipality of Silvania shone on stage with the play "the origin of life in Sutagao", and the municipality of San Bernardo presented the play "in memory of the dead".
Background of the FUT
In 2014, the University of Cundinamarca's Student Welfare Department revived the University Theater Festival, "FUT." That same year, the main campus, branches, and extension campuses gathered in the university's former main auditorium to share their artistic and theatrical projects. The festival also featured local and national theater groups whose participation enriched the experience. The Central University of Bogotá's theater group closed the festival with a performance of Federico García Lorca's "The House of Bernarda Alba.".
As part of the 2014 festival, the "Games for Actors" workshop was held, led by the participants themselves from Universidad Central. That year, the casts from each UCundinamarca campus showcased their best creations.
By 2015, the house was filled with guests, and the Festival had developed its own distinct identity. Thus, the third edition of the Udecino Theater Festival took place, with the participation of the main campus, branches, and extensions of UCundinamarca, local and national guests, and more than two workshop leaders for academic and artistic training and creation. That year, professors Martha Martínez and Natalia Morales led the workshops: Character Creation and Circles of Trust.
The special guests were the District University of Bogotá, presenting two of their best productions: “Viejitos” from Eugene Ionesco’s “The Bald Soprano” and “Dinner is Served,” a collective creation. Simultaneously, there was a special ACRO-ARTE demonstration by the ACRO-YOGA group from Fusagasugá. That year, the closing ceremony was filled with
Magic and color. The UCundinamarca Fusagasugá branch theater group filled the Emilio Sierra Baquero auditorium for the first time with more than 400 guests.
In 2016, the Emilio Sierra Baquero Auditorium once again hosted the University Theater Festival. The event's impact extended far beyond borders, culminating in the closing performance by the Argentine theater company Teatro en Sepia TES, whose play "Afrolatino Americanas" was met with thunderous applause. That year, actor Raúl Gutiérrez led a voice workshop for theater. Theater groups from not only the municipality of Fusagasugá but also the Sumapaz region participated, including the theater group from the municipality of San Bernardo, Cundinamarca.
