Teachers will perform a two-piano concert

The show, titled "Danzas del Ballet Criollo al Joropo" (Dances of the Creole Ballet to Joropo), aims to showcase national folklore from an academic perspective. "The important thing to highlight here is that we want to call on the music industry to rescue this legacy that is our music. Furthermore, these are highly accomplished performers of this instrument and are part of the UDECARTE research group at the university," explains León Salcedo, a professor in the music program.

Attendees will be treated to a journey through a variety of musical styles. “There will be pasillos, cumbia, bambucos, joropo, pajarillo, guabina, marcha, and ballet criollo by composers such as Adolfo Mejía, Guillermo Uribe Holguín, Germán García, and Wolfgang David Ordóñez. They will also perform a piece by Professor Víctor Mejía,” Salcedo explains.

Regarding the instrumentation of each of the pieces to be presented, it is worth noting that they were originally conceived for a symphonic format: orchestra or band. "This in itself represents an interpretive and creative challenge.".

As for the instrumentation, the compositions that will be presented in the concert represented a challenge for each composer by requiring an expansion of the musical language towards a grand scale.

But this fascinating work doesn't end there. “This duo is conducting research for UCundinamarca and the National University of Colombia entitled 'Joropo and Symphonic Pajarillo: Audience Reaction to Folk Music Expanded into Academic Language Adapted for Two Pianos.' The repertoire they perform in the concert serves as input for their study, which has a socio-musical focus. This study covers the Colombian Orinoquía region and aims to categorize the perceptions of audiences unfamiliar with music performed in concert halls using folk and symphonic styles.‘.

Tickets cost 25,000 pesos for preferred seating and 18,000 pesos for general admission, and can be purchased through the official website of the Julio Mario Santo Domingo Major Theater.
