Teacher created a method for teaching music

His proposal stems from the university's fourth research call for proposals last year. This knowledge manager, a graduate in music with a focus on conducting from the National University and with a master's degree in arts with an emphasis on contemporary music from Switzerland, was thus encouraged to present the project "Creation of Mixed Duets Based on the Reconfiguration of Technical Studies as a Pedagogical Resource for Chamber Music." "It's common for musicians to learn to master their instruments on their own. What I did with two colleagues was to propose the idea that they could develop professional skills collectively. That's why I believed that with this learning methodology they could have a more efficient and effective process.".

But he had an obligation to corroborate his hypothesis, using the rigorous scientific method that validates or disqualifies a procedure under investigation. “I confirmed it a year ago, before submitting the project to the fourth call for proposals. That time I wrote a duet for clarinet and cello. I conducted the relevant studies and the technical work of seeing how those two instruments could be integrated, and the result was very good. The method was proposed as an initiative to the student researchers and the faculty members co-investigating the current project.”.

The project had two components: creation and practice. The creative aspect was led by a student researcher, with me acting as tutor, while the rest contributed through practical application. The final result demonstrated an increased interest in raising their professional level, not only individually but also as a challenge to improve technically for the benefit of a group. Here, the initial premise can be said to make sense in terms of its applicability within the university context.

The project will conclude in December, and following the premise that the classroom is not the only source of learning, as stated in the Transmodern Digital Educational Model, this restless knowledge manager and his colleagues will deliver several products. “We made three studio recordings to reinforce the students’ learning process.

There, aspiring musicians will be able to listen to and remove one of the instruments, learning as if that person were the other musician, completing the duet. Furthermore, they will be able to study the recordings online. This is a valuable option because they now have this digital resource, which we provide and which they can easily access, allowing them to interact with the audio. Additionally, a record of the experience will be compiled and presented in a paper that we plan to release soon.

For tenth-semester student Jessica Méndez, this learning methodology helped her solidify what she had learned in class. “It was a very good experience, as it allowed me to learn more about the particularities of other instruments and my own. Also, sharing with a colleague gives you the opportunity to exchange ideas with the goal of making things better. Oh, and another aspect worth highlighting is that I was able to record one of the duets in the studio with the professor, and that contributed a lot to my training.”.

Ultimately, this teacher's goal is for chamber music to reach a higher level within the curriculum each day. "Last year, this genre was included in a learning course. That's why I'm interested in its continued development, as its knowledge is key for any instrumentalist.".
