Human rights: part of professional training?

With the aim of sharing theoretical knowledge and the experience of some invited athletes, on Friday, May 28, the members of the cycling research group of the Sports Science and Physical Education program of UCundinamarca Soacha Extension, held the first virtual seminar on Initiation Processes of Female Cycling.
“These academic and scientific events are of great importance to professionals in sports science and physical education, as they provide us with key knowledge to improve people's quality of life,” said Luis Rafael Hutchison Salazar, coordinator of the Sports Science and Physical Education program, who also thanked Pedro Nel Quintero Turriano, dean of the Faculty, and Professor José Antonio Benites, leader of the research group, who, along with students María Fernanda Zamudio and Tania Ximena Pérez, made this seminar possible.
The Ministry of Sport and the Municipal Institute for Recreation and Sport of Soacha supported this seminar and participated with presentations for the students, graduates and teachers of UCundinamarca and the public who followed the seminar through Facebook Live.
The academic event featured the participation of José Antonio Benítez Ortiz representing the University of Cundinamarca, who spoke about the history of women's cycling to provide context and explained the importance of women in this sport.
Likewise, Marcela Martínez Torres, an official from the Municipal Institute for Recreation and Sports of Soacha, explained the social paradigms and the influence of women's cycling in the initiation processes, a presentation that was complemented by that of Juan Sebastián Rodríguez from the Ministry of Sports, who gave an overview of sports initiation.
The Colombian Cycling Federation also participated in the event with a presentation on the importance of sports initiation by Diego Edisson Gutiérrez Vásquez, and to conclude, José Alfonso Martin Reyes, representing the National Pedagogical University, spoke about the methodology in the processes of sports initiation for women's cycling.
“It is important to contribute to the research processes that make the sport grow not only in talent but also in sustainable structures for the correct application of knowledge of the sports disciplines,” said María Fernanda Zamudio González, a student in the Sports Science and Physical Education program.
Finally, a closing panel was held with Laura Camila Cagua, the most representative athlete from the municipality of Soacha in mountain biking, who spoke about her experiences in the sporting, economic, and social spheres. The seminar was attended by 187 people via Zoom and Facebook Live.
