Students in the role of legislators

For the first time, student leaders from the ninth and tenth semesters of the Nursing program participated in a pedagogical exercise at the Congress of the Republic to debate draft laws.

Between September 12 and 13, the Model Student Congress was held in the Senate of the Republic with the participation of tenth semester Nursing students: Andrés Fernando Barrera Pérez and Yully Mariana Rincón Gamba, and Nury Marcela Rodríguez Cubillos from the ninth semester.

In the Model Student Congress, students from UCundinamarca and other higher education institutions participated in a simulation of the Colombian Senate, debating four bills. This educational and pedagogical exercise aimed to create a space for learning and youth participation in national politics, developing skills and criteria for evaluating the country's problems based on an understanding of the importance of the Congress of the Republic within Colombia's democratic institutions.

During these two days, nursing students learned about democratic values, political leadership, public speaking, argumentation, the legislative process, and procedures in lawmaking. They also recognized the importance of democratic participation and its institutions, thus becoming better, more active, and participatory citizens, which is essential for the country's development.

In October, the nursing program director, students, and some teachers will visit the Congress of the Republic again to coordinate projects with the Colombia network and carry out these types of exercises again.
