The University of Cundinamarca invested approximately 1,452,300 pesos during 2024 and the first academic period of 2025 to support its students' participation in the ASCUN regional and national games, through the Office of University Welfare. This investment reflects an institutional commitment to life skills education and the empowerment of the student body through the physical, mental, and emotional development of the student community.
During 2024, the institution allocated 1,442,380,000 pesos in 319 financial aid grants to students for sports and cultural competitions, both regionally and nationally. For the first semester of 2025, 239 financial aid grants were approved for students, totaling 1,442,842,550 pesos, with a direct investment of 1,443,163,680 pesos earmarked to cover expenses for lodging, transportation, food, and hydration. This commitment from the institution will continue into the second academic period of 2025, during which students participating in national competitions will receive additional support through the allocation of new resources.
The funds were transferred directly to each student, allowing them to manage their own well-being during the competitions. In addition, the university covered registration, annual fees, and living expenses at ASCUN, and provided each athlete and artist with presentation and competition attire.
According to Dr. María Margarita Moya González, Director of University Welfare, this investment represents an institutional effort to promote students' life skills through sports, art, and culture. “Our goal is to encourage student participation in activities aimed at strengthening individual and group skills, which promote practices that allow individuals to develop aspects such as discipline, commitment, physical and mental health, leadership, teamwork, respect, a strong sense of identity, as well as aspects related to dialogue, self-confidence, and communication and interpersonal skills,” Moya González emphasized.
From institutional meetings to national stages
Thanks to the internal pre-selection processes, for the first academic period of 2025, 197 students represented the University in the regional sports games in the Coffee Region, in modalities such as: Soccer (male and female), Volleyball (male and female), Basketball (male and female), Taekwondo and Karate Do, Athletics, Swimming, Field Tennis and Table Tennis, Rugby, Ultimate (male and female), Futsal (male and female).
Also, in the regional cultural meetings held in Florence, 42 students participated in: Folk and urban dance, Theater, Soloists (male and female), orchestra and original song.
These participations were made possible thanks to the support of the sports and cultural advisors at each location, who lead training processes that allow the consolidation of the university's representative groups, as well as thanks to the commitment, discipline and training of each of the students, which motivates the institution to continue supporting the culture, art and sport of UCundinamarca.
More than just skills, they are learning opportunities for life!
Aligned with the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT), the University of Cundinamarca, as an active part of the ASCUN National Network – University Welfare, not only promotes sporting, cultural and artistic excellence, but also trains students capable of representing the institution's values in every competition.
Through sports, culture, and art, the university creates spaces for training and transformation, where the most important thing is not just to compete, but to grow as individuals and citizens committed to their community.
With this commitment, UCundinamarca reaffirms its dedication to student well-being, education for life, and the consolidation of a transhuman, equitable, diverse, and forward-thinking university.
