Our university is increasingly chosen as an academic exchange destination by students from the Basque Country.
Irati Agirre is a 21-year-old girl from the University of the Basque Country, who came to UCundinamarca Girardot branch to do her exchange semester in the Nursing program.
Although her days are spent between classes on adult nursing care in surgical and emergency situations, nursing seminar II and research seminar I, she makes time to make new friends, get to know the city of Girardot, taste the gastronomy and travel to Bogotá.
In an interview with the media of the UCUndinamarca, Irati Agirre shared her expectations and how she has felt at the University.
UC How was it received by students and professors?
AI: Although the first few days were a bit tough, I have to admit that the welcome I've received from both students and professors has been excellent. They're always eager to help me with anything I need, making it much easier for me to settle into university life.
UC ¿What do you know about the University of Cundinamarca?
AI: Before coming here, I had spoken with students who had completed their exchange semester. From the beginning, they explained to me that the academic methodology is different; here, studying is continuous, since we have assignments or exams every week. They also told me that the level of rigor was higher, at least in the Nursing program, and that you have to plan every day to keep up with your studies.
UC What are your personal and professional expectations?
AI: Through this experience, I want to expand my knowledge in the health field, learn about the history and current situation of Colombia, and also get to know myself better. Furthermore, I would like to exchange experiences with others, meet new people, and travel as much as possible. Given that my native language is Basque, which I use both in my studies and daily life, my goal is also to improve my Spanish.

UC Do you believe that this exchange experience is an opportunity to gain new academic and cultural knowledge?
AIAbsolutely. Every culture has its own way of teaching and transmitting values, and understanding these differences is incredibly enriching for personal and academic development. Learning about other cultures allows us to understand different realities and customs, which are invaluable for personal growth and professional development.
UC Why did you decide to do the exchange at the University of Cundinamarca?
AII knew I wanted to spend a semester abroad, and I preferred to go somewhere in Latin America. People spoke very highly of Colombia and the university itself; it's a country with a rich history and a history of struggle, so I thought it would be interesting to get to know Colombia. Although people told me it was a dangerous country, I know that the security and violence situation has changed considerably, so I didn't hesitate to come.
