The Faculty of Administrative, Economic, and Accounting Sciences, through its Public Accounting program, provided free training to 162 people as part of its community outreach program. Participants included single mothers, micro-entrepreneurs, students, and members of the general community in the Sumapaz region. These groups received instruction in business initiatives, basic and intermediate accounting (modules I and II) for business organization, and tax management.
This initiative is part of the project “Strengthening the social fabric, towards entrepreneurship, through accounting education for the Sumapaz region”, which has been impacting the province and strengthening the social fabric in Cundinamarca for several years.
“I am proud of the social outreach work that the University of Cundinamarca has been doing with the community of Fusagasugá and the Sumapaz region, because for more than 5 years more than 770 people have been trained in Basic and Intermediate Accounting. Este is a project supported by a group of students who contribute to improving micro-enterprises"Sas already generate entrepreneurship.", Yanira Patricia Barrera Ávila, leader of the training project, highlighted this.
The faculty project was supported by a group of students (Laura Blanco, Angie Acosta, Cristian López, Sebastián Pulido, Jeraldyn Ortega, Estefany Gracia, Yeimy Rodríguez, David Millán, Nubia Gallego, Paula Guirán and Diana Montaño) from the last semester, who chose the graduation option of being instructors and advisors with the commitment to train and educate for life this vulnerable population and merchant for the generation of entrepreneurship and innovation in the region.
“What I learned gave me competitive tools at the workplace. I’ve realized what goes on within companies, such as personnel management and dealings with the DIAN (Colombian Tax Authority). I think it’s excellent,” stated Alberto Calderón, businessman and participant in the project.
The graduation ceremony took place on June 16th and included the participation of the Director of the Public Accounting Program, Olga Liliana Gutiérrez; the delegate of the Municipal Family Secretariat, Sandra Trujillo; the journalist from the Nueva Época Radio Station, Gilma Romero; and the project's lead teacher, Yanira Patricia Barrera Ávila.
