Strengthening knowledge in Environmental Engineering

According to Luis Miguel Castañeda Galindo, coordinator of the Environmental Engineering program, and Dalia Xiomara Suárez Pulido, Knowledge and Learning Manager at the Girardot branch, the research groups seek to strengthen the training processes in research in Science, Technology and Innovation, through joint work between knowledge managers and students, oriented towards knowledge management and innovation based on translocal lines of research.

It is important to note that the goal is to instill in students an investigative culture to address problems and promote civility based on democratic values and education for life.

The aim of these seedbeds is to promote the development of research projects that stimulate learning experiences, innovative and transformative thinking, as well as knowledge management and learning.

Currently, the Environmental Engineering program has 6 research groups in different thematic lines, among which stand out sustainable processes, eco-ingenio bodecino, research based on natural ecosystems, alternative studies in theories of development and environment, bioremediation and environmental bioprospecting.

It is worth noting that the students highlight the importance of research groups as a complementary tool for their studies. For example, David Antonio León Quevedo mentions that in his project focused on the use of microalgae to improve water quality, he has managed to demonstrate their ability to remove contaminants such as E. coli, phosphorus, and nitrate that affect water quality.

Estefanía Ávila González, a member of a research group, emphasizes that these spaces provide them with the opportunity to acquire deeper knowledge than that provided in the classroom. Furthermore, they help them develop critical thinking, teamwork, and research skills, as well as introduce them to the process of creating scientific articles, which will be useful in their future careers.
