Strengthening swimming through YouTube

Students lead audiovisual production project for technical training of the breaststroke style, to reinforce practical and theoretical content.

Julián Camilo Moya Pérez, co-investigator of the project “Production of videos for the technical training of the breaststroke through the Youtube platform”, highlights the importance and usefulness of the internet, social networks and the platform to generate and disseminate audiovisual content for pedagogical purposes in the sports field.

The project is not intended to replace hands-on learning; rather, it aims to strengthen technique in aquatic activities when not in a physical setting. It also seeks to distribute instructional audiovisual scripts on breaststroke technique training for coaches, athletes, and the general public interested in refining their swimming technique and learning to swim.

“The project’s contributions are evident in the theoretical basis on the YouTube platform and the phenomenon of YouTubers for future research; likewise, instructional audiovisual scripts were created for the order and sequence of the aquatic shot; and the creation of the University of Cundinamarca’s swimming YouTube channel with audiovisual content of the different swimming styles and topics related to training,” explains Julián Camilo Moya Pérez, co-investigator of the project.

The project's authors emphasize how technology is at the service of sports, hope to contribute to science through ICT, and urge stakeholders to take advantage of the tools and different digital platforms to strengthen sports disciplines.

“Our project focused on swimming, but it can be done on athletics, tennis, basketball, volleyball, or any other sport. We encourage student researchers to explore other sports and use digital platforms as a pedagogical and didactic strategy for learning,” the authors point out.
