Strengthening higher education

By: Alejandro García Suárez – Advisory Office of Communications

To facilitate access to higher education for young people in the region, the director of the Soacha extension, Jesús Enrique Pabón Quintero, met with Mayor Luz Astrid Olarte Zarta, along with Knowledge and Learning Managers Jimmy Méndez Molano and Angélica Tovar Rodríguez. “It was a very productive meeting for both the mayor's office and our university, especially for our industrial engineering program,” Jimmy Méndez Molano noted at the conclusion of the meeting.

Among the agreements reached are the possibility of a student completing an internship at the Nariño mayor's office and the development of a joint research project. Additionally, a scientific and academic event is planned to take place in Nariño, as well as a visit by elementary school students to the campus on October 31st, a day dedicated to fun and learning.

The plan also includes the creation of an ICFES preparation course and an English course for students in the municipality, aiming to coordinate various management projects. At the end of the meeting, Mayor Olarte Zarta expressed her enthusiasm and commitment to education in Nariño: “We are in talks to sign an agreement that will allow our young people to strengthen their education and access this prestigious institution. Despite the good opportunities we have had, we have always faced challenges, especially with those students who wish to enroll.”.

The local leader emphasized the urgent need to provide educational opportunities to those who, like many young people in Nariño, seek to improve their living conditions: “I want us to support our youth on their path to higher education. Many of them come to us seeking better opportunities, as they face difficulties with employment and resources. Upon completing their studies, they need options that not only provide them with a solid academic foundation but also support their economic development.”.
