Social and environmental impact with “Love Bottles”

With the aim of mitigating the damage caused to nature, preserving natural resources and the human species, the Cultural Learning Field – CAC Nature Care, carries out environmental education days with the Bottles of Love project.

“This is done to foster and strengthen a sense of care for nature and natural resources. These interaction spaces are called 'workshops,' which contribute to fulfilling specific Learning Outcomes, taking environmental approaches into account. They are collaborative spaces where students, teachers, and external entities contribute their knowledge to academic work or social interaction,‘ explained Dr. Carlos Fernando Gómez Ramírez, Administrative Director of the Facatativá Extension.

The director stated that, like this campaign, other activities are also carried out that allow participants to interact experientially from their homes with easily accessible materials, mostly recyclable and found at home, which help to protect the environment.

In Facatativá, the Love Bottles workshop was held last year; however, thanks to the work carried out by the CAC Nature Care, the collection of bottles continued. “The university community and different entities of the municipality of Facatativá have demonstrated the positive social and environmental impact regarding the management of single-use plastics,” explained Liseth Paola Sanabria Gaitán, leader of the CAC “Nature Care”.

The company Urbaser held a competition in which UCundinamarca won first place with this project for its social and environmental impact and the traceability it has had since 2019.

“We managed to have an impact on the community, which was evident in March of this year with the collection of 188 'love bottles' for a total weight of 52.8 kg of plastic, with the support of 18 attendees who have backed this initiative and have become agents of social transformation in the care of Nature,” concluded the CAC leader.
