Soacha says “Yes” to data processing

The Soacha Extension of the University of Cundinamarca was the venue for another Data Protection Day event. Engineer Alexandra Carrillo, Systems and Technology Manager at the extension, spoke with us about data processing and its importance within organizations.

At the University of Cundinamarca, Soacha Extension, the “Data Protection Day” was held, an event that aims to teach the different members of the university community about tools to protect their personal information and the importance of being protected on the Internet.

Engineer Alexandra Carrillo, who coordinated the event for the outreach program, spoke about the importance of data processing in companies and the precautions that members of the University should take to avoid being vulnerable online:

What is the Data Processing Policy?

AC. The UCundinamarca Personal Data Processing Policy, stipulated in Resolution 0050 of 2018, contains the responsible party as owner, in the duties and rights of the University, complying with the regulations.

How important is data to a company?

AC Information is the most valuable asset, and as a valuable asset it must be safe and protected.

Why is UCundinamarca interested in the Processing of Personal Data?

AC It is interested in preserving information under the necessary monitoring conditions regarding adulteration, loss, consultation or manipulation, use and access thereof.

How vital is it for the university community to know the Data Protection Law?

AC. This is of vital importance, since the Udecina community must be aware of data protection, as it is their information; they must have a good understanding of how their personal data is used.

Why should organizations designate a person to assume the role of data processing?

AC It is a duty stipulated by law and therefore for greater compliance and reliability in the activities assigned or related within the University.

Finally, a personal recommendation for data protection.

AC As data owners, we need to be vigilant and know who we are giving our information to. A second recommendation: The University of Cundinamarca has an established data processing policy and is therefore a trustworthy institution.
