Science applied to forage production

At the El Tíbar Agro-environmental Unit, the Animal Science program is leading a project to evaluate the adaptation, production, and nutritional quality of 15 forage cultivars in cold climates. The initiative actively involves students of Strategic Forage Production and Biotechnology, as well as Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, creating a space for training and research of high academic and productive value.

The project's impact extends beyond the experimental stage. According to its coordinators, it has been key in developing skills for interpreting and utilizing the advantages offered by new forages, especially those with high nutritional value. These skills are fundamental for improving animal feed and, consequently, optimizing milk production for small and medium-sized producers in the region.

In accordance with the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT), these types of projects allow students, as Creators of Opportunities, to apply theory in real-world contexts. This fosters the development of skills aligned with the current needs of the agricultural sector, both regionally and nationally.

This initiative includes plans to hold workshops and seminars at the El Tíbar Agro-environmental Unit. The goal is to strengthen the technical knowledge of local producers and position the Animal Science program as a national leader in scientific research on forage and animal nutrition.

This initiative reaffirms the role of academia as an articulator of scientific knowledge and knowledge from the field, generating real solutions from knowledge and contributing to sustainable rural development.
