Human rights: part of professional training?

October 15th marked International Day of Rural Women, a celebration held since 2008 and recognized by the United Nations. This day acknowledges the role of women in the economic, social, and political development of rural areas.
According to figures from the Rural Women's Office of the Ministry of Agriculture, there are 5.8 million rural women in Colombia, and in Cundinamarca it is estimated that, by next year, according to DANE, there will be more than 404,000 rural women throughout the department.
“At the national and municipal levels, there is a high percentage of rural areas, so recognition of this beautiful work must be done every day. For this reason, in the municipality of Soacha and from the Cultural Learning Field (CAC) of this extension called Soacha Identity, the effort of the entire rural sector is valued, and of course, that of the women, knowing that of the 187 square kilometers that make up the municipality, 85.61 TP3T corresponds to this sector,” explained the leader of the CAC, Yolanda Giraldo.
It is worth highlighting that the municipality of Soacha has a wide diversity of resources that gives an agricultural and livestock advantage to the community, in addition to being fortunate in the properties of the soil, with water sources that strengthen the work being producers with high quality standards.
“This tradition has been maintained through time, allowing us to continue the customs of our ancestors, which is what we seek through the CAC Identidad Suachuna, which is linked to the Environmental Management System by keeping alive the native customs and beliefs of Soacha, making the community and its rural women feel proud and identified with their activities in the countryside and their natural wealth,” commented engineer Karin Mesa of the SGA.
Finally, the Environmental Management System highlights the diversity of the rural areas, where different ecosystems are found throughout the municipality, such as floodplains and wetlands, the Lower Andean Forest located between 2,550 and 2,800 meters above sea level, and the majestic High Andean Forest, between 2,800 and 3,100 meters above sea level, where cloud forest prevails.
