Reopening of the Knowledge Management Center

As a social institution of knowledge, we are committed to inclusion and values-based education for life, while continuing to offer a quality education. Based on these principles, each of our regional units carries out projects that benefit the university community. In the case of the Girardot branch, the library, now known as the Center for Knowledge Management and Learning, was reopened on March 31st.

During the event, the director gave the guests a detailed account of the work carried out in this multidimensional field of learning. “We paid close attention to inclusion, which is why we built two ramps. We also improved the air conditioning system by purchasing three additional units; insulated the roof; installed a PVC false ceiling; and added automatic doors with sensors that open and close when they detect people's presence.”.

In his speech, he indicated that these works addressed two fundamental aspects. “We took into account the issue of inclusion for people with reduced mobility and climate comfort for the development of academic activities. Before, without a good air conditioning system, the students sought other spaces, which meant that the CGCA was underutilized. Now that situation will be different.”.

Finally, he highlighted the beautification work that had been carried out in the surrounding area. “Ornamental plants were planted, giving the CGCA a different look.”.

For Germán Ramos Villareal, a student in the Business Administration program who attended the reopening event, the change is complete. “It’s a really great space now. It feels different, because before, when it rained, water leaked through the roof. As for the climate control, it’s fantastic, since Girardot has an average temperature of 32 degrees Celsius, and now we can study much more comfortably.”.

On the other hand, he expressed his gratitude to the institution and its leaders. “I want to highlight the work of the director, Dr. Miguel Ángel Avila, and the rector, Dr. Adriano Muñoz Barrera, who successfully completed this important remodeling project.”.

Those present at the event included María de los Ángeles Franco Ortiz, Head of the Academic Support Unit; Jorge Alfredo Mayorga Cárdenas, Head of the Virtual and Distance Education Office; Miguel Alejandro Flechas Montaño, Dean of the Faculty of Administrative, Economic, and Accounting Sciences; John Alexander Moreno Sandoval, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences; Javier Hernando Gracia Gil, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; and Laurentino Carranza Meneses, Coordinator of the Business Administration Program. Also in attendance were the family members of Professor Wadith Kure Niño, after whom the CGCA is named.

This project, which will provide comfort, will improve the learning processes of a space that has gone from being the traditional library to a management center, mediated by technology, science and innovation, where users can interact and participate with each of the services it offers to strengthen their learning as stated in the Transmodern Digital Educational Model.
